Sometimes no store plugin fits. Or there is one that almost works, but not quite. Then we write our own plugin, put logic in functions.php or adapt templates in the child theme. No page builder, no stack of half solutions. Code you can find again and explain.
For agencies this is often useful: a client site that needs something extra, an integration that returns in every project, or a plugin you want on multiple installs. For entrepreneurs with a strong idea and no developer in house: we turn it into a plugin. From sketch to working first version, so you can test whether the idea holds.
That can be a link with accounting, an extra field on a post type, a filter on an overview, or a template that renders differently on mobile. We keep it small: only what is needed, in the files WordPress expects. Theme updates stay possible as long as we work in a child theme.
If the logic grows larger than WordPress handles comfortably, we say so. Then an in-house solution or an app is more honest than yet another custom plugin nobody dares touch.
